Controls Plus
CONTRACT VALUE
$100 Million
COMPLETION
August 2021
LOCATION
Palmerston North
To help keep up with the demand across its supermarket network, Countdown New Zealand required a new distribution centre in the Lower North Island Region. The project consisted of 39,000m2 of warehouse and 2000m2 of offices and ancillary structures. The new facility has sustainability firmly at the heart of its construction and design with energy efficient lighting, rainwater harvesting and low water and energy use fittings. It delivers to 55 stores across the North Island and moves approximately 450,000 cartons of food and groceries each week, nearly double the previous Palmerston North DC volume. The new distribution centre is Countdown’s first accredited building by Green Star, an internationally recognised sustainability rating system for the design, construction and operation of buildings, fit outs, and communities.
With an ambitious construction program, Controls Plus needed a partner they could rely on to deliver on time and on budget, they chose FDG. The process began with FDG preparing a seismic design and suggesting some installation changes for the more efficient use of products. FDG then began regular delivery of cable tray, cable basket, cable ladder, fasteners & fixings, seismic bracing strut & bracketry to site in Palmerston North. Project completion was three weeks ahead of schedule despite delays and covid lockdowns.
